Star Wars Celebration 40th Anniversary Panel

Last night I was watching Captain America: Civil War again when at around 1am a notification came up on my tablet that Star Wars was going live on periscope. This happened right at the beginning of the airport scene too yet I had to turn it down and focus on the tab. It was about 15 minutes before the event started up and I was immediately greeted with the awesome reveal that Warwick Davis was hosting the panel. Warwick of course is known in Star Wars lore for playing Wicket the Ewok, which was his first ever role at 11 years old. He also appeared in small roles/ cameos in a number of other Star Wars movies. First he brought out Kathleen Kennedy who’s running lucasfilm right now and is in charge of all the incredible movies we’re getting now. Then they brought out the man himself George Lucas who talked about creating Star Wars and it’s lasting legacy. They brought out Daventry Filoni who developed the animated series The Clone Wars and Rebels. They then brought out Ian McDiarmid and Hayden Christensen which was really cool, Hayden in particular has had to endure a lot of shit for the prequels and it was just good to see him out there again, people cheered and it was just a cool moment. They brought out Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Peter Mathew  (Chewie) and it was cool to see all those guys. Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill came out then out came Harrison Ford. It was just great to watch all these guys look back with fondness for all that these movies have given to themselves and the fans. Throughout this there were video messages from Liam Neeson and Samuel L Jackson who weren’t able to be there so it was cool to see them say a few words.

Next came an incredibly touching tribute to the late great Carrie Fisher. It was definitely emotional watching that as she was such a beloved icon on and off screen and there will truly never be a more elegant princess as her.  Carries daughter Billie Lourd came out and paid a touching tribute to her mother and capped it by reciting the entire message Princess Leia sends to Obi- Wan in A New Hope which was so perfect. The panel ended with John Williams performing with an orchestra, Princess Leias theme, followed by the main Star Wars theme and finished with the Imperial March. Throughout the entire live stream there were connection issues so there were many moments and anecdotes and what have you that I could see properly but all in all it was a fantastic panel, I’m glad I had the chance to sit and watch through the entire thing.  It might not have been the best choice since I didn’t get to sleep until after 3am and I was up with my daughter at 7am so today was a little rough. Worth it though. I’m still avidly looking out for more content to check out and I’m very impatiently waiting on a trailer for The Last Jedi.

Did you check out the panel? Did you watch live or later? Thanks for reading and until next time, take it easy.
