Thoughts: Matt Reeves to direct The Batman

It’s official, Matt Reeves has signed on to direct the upcoming DCEU film currently titled The Batman. This comes as a bit of a shock since last week it was reported that negotiations between Reeves and WB had ‘broken down’. Reports had claimed that the War for the Planet of the Apes director was WB’s first choice to take over the directorial efforts after Ben Affleck announced he was stepping down. It’s not uncommon for negotiations between directors/ actors and studios to break down then pick up again later but it didn’t seem likely in this case. When it was reported that talks between Reeves and WB had broken down, it was stated talks could resume “after heads have cooled” which suggests negotiations got very heated.

Both Reeves and WB released statements expressing their excitement for the project, but there was no mention of or statement from Ben Affleck which is curious. Something else that gives me pause is all the drama that has been going on of late behind the scenes not only for The Batman, but for many of the DCEU movies. Directors have been dropping from these projects like flies so until production of the movie starts I’m not putting too much faith in his news.

Assuming that everything works out and Reeves does direct, he is an outstanding choice.  He has proven himself to be an extraordinary filmmaker. His take on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was an incredible movie and it’s upcoming sequel War for the Planet of the Apes is looking to be even bigger.

As always thanks for reading. What do you think, are you excited about Matt Reeves directing The Batman? Do you think it will work out? Let me know in the comments we’ll chat about it. Till next time, take it easy.
