Thoughts: Drew Goddard writing Deadpool 2?

A few months back the news broke that Deadpool director Tim Miller was exiting from directing the highly anticipated sequel over creative differences. This came as a shock to fans especially because the team of Tim Miller, star Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick seemed to be such a strong, well functioning team that worked and fought for so long together to get the movie made. Fears were alleviated a bit though when it was revealed that John Wick co-director David Leitch would take over as director. Shortly after Millers departure, composer Junkie XL announced he too was leaving the project. Now it seems there are reports that Drew Goddard is now writing the script and is working really hard with Ryan Reynolds to lock it down. This is conflicting because Goddard is incredibly talented and has worked on some fantastic projects (Marvels Daredevil on Netflix for example) but this means that Reese and Wernick would be out.

I’m not sure how to feel about what’s going on with this movie. On the one hand the core creative team all but dropping off the project reeks of turmoil, but their roles are being filled with great talent that could be a good fit. It could also be about getting a fresh set of eyes on the project to keep it firing on all cylinders.

There is still a part of me that hopes these reports get debunked, even though I think Goddard would be a great fit, I just don’t like the idea of this movie getting too messy behind the scenes.

As always thanks for reading. What do you think, are you worried about the behind the scenes goings on of Deadpool 2? Let me know in the comments, we’ll chat about it. Till next time, take it easy.

Update: I wrote this post just before going to bed and I wake up to realise Reese and Wernick are still very much involved in the script and Drew Goddard is just coming in to give it that bit extra. This puts me at huge ease, I love this. I think this is a smart ,over and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
